Welcome to the Spending Smart blog!
Welcome to a blog about spending money smarter. It’s a topic that I’ve written about as a journalist for several years in my national newspaper column, Spending Smart. And in February, I’ll release my first book, “Living Rich by Spending Smart: How to Get More of What You Really Want.” The book is available for pre-order at all the big book stores and their Web sites, as well as my own Web site, www.gregkarp.com.
This is not a cheapskate blog. I will not explore how to make sweater vests from dryer lint. Instead, it’s about how to direct your money to things you really care about, and plug the leaks of wasteful spending.
What will you see here?
- Tips. I’ll offer the best advice I know to spend your money smarter. It’s not that I have all the answers, but I read a boatload of personal finance material every day. I’ll share the highlights. Moreover, as a journalist, I get to talk to experts on a variety of topics, from ink-jet printers to insurance; grocery shopping to funeral spending.
- News. I’ll bring you news related to your money, presenting it in a straight-forward and brief style. And most of the time I’ll comment on it. You’re welcome to agree or not with a comment of your own.
- Personal anecdotes. I’ll share with you spending situations from my own life, in hopes it might help you.
Why this money blog?
- The blogosphere is full of good personal finance blogs. What you get here are well-written entries by a professional journalist. I get all the news releases and news stories before everybody else sees them, and now, so will you.
- I’ve been writing a blog for a couple of years at my home newspaper’s Web site. During that time, I’ve gotten better at choosing topics that you care about.
Again, welcome. I hope I earn a place in your RSS readers and blog rolls.
